2009 COOLSCULPT
In conjunction with Telluride Mountain Village Owners Association's yearly family event SnowFest, CoolSculpt will be having teams of artists sculpting huge 8 foot cubes of snow into visual wonderers for our guests and locals alike. Sculpting begins Thursday, January 29th with judging Sunday February 1st at 3:00PM. This year's sponsors and randomly selected sculptures for each location include:
The View Lounge at the Mountain Lodge will be having the returning team of Tommy Hein Architects making another big presentation this year. You may remember their King Kong climbing a skyscraper last year complete with little cars on the streets below? This year they will be creating a "baby elephant" playfully seated on a ball. This will be constructed over in Mountain Village Sunset Plaza at the top of Chair 1/Meadows ski run,
Mountain Video Productions will have the opportunity to host the Telluride Mountain Schools middle school/high school art classes sculpture named-Metaphor Machine. Craig Wasserman is the schools art teacher and he will be wrangling approximately 30 students in their creation of a giant Sumo wrestler bearing down onto a little Sumo wrestler- located at the bottom of Chair 4.
S.U.N.R.I.S.E. - Telluride's locally owned and operated environmental reclamation company will be hosting The Guest Services Team and their sculpture "Snow Cream". This will be a double scoop ice cream cone that has, most likely to a child's horror, fallen to the ground. Team Guest Service is combined of an array of different talents and personalities. We will be uniting for this project in similar fashion to everyday work. Their goal is to portray the passion we all hold for life and snow and we are going to achieve this buy using our best attribute, teamwork!
Telluride's Council for the Arts and Humanities was randomly awarded Duncan Mackenzie's creation "Open the Chutes". This will be a team of climbers ascending a series of mountains. Duncan holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and designs exterior environments with a focus on sacred alignments with an integration of landscape design with sculptural installations. He also has a glassblowing and sculpture studio in Santa Cruz CA for the last 15 years.
1st place is $1000 and there is over $3000 in prizes and money to be awarded!
