SculptFest 2006 - Overview
|
A Unique Winter Sculpting Event
We are pleased to announce that Telluride's Mountain Village is sponsoring SculptFest, in conjunction with the towns SnowFest activities Martin Luther King Jr. weekend January 13-16, 2006. SculptFest is sure to become a favorite component of Telluride's annual winter ski season.
With this year's event, we will be building on last year's success including;
One professional sculpting team carving on a huge 8x8x10 foot block on the
Mountain Village Beach. (The Base of Chair lift 4)
Six teams sculpting 8x8x8 blocks throughout the Mountain Village Core
One Ice Sculpture custom created by USA Olympic Ice Sculpting tryout team member Ben Rand. Update! Ice Sculptor Ben Rand will not be able to attend - he was selected to compete for the USA ice sculpting team for the Olympics in Italy in January 2006. We hope to see him next year or even later this year, schedule permitting. CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES, BEN!
KidsSculpt- where local school art teachers and their classes sculpt
4x4x4 cubes.
Guest Participation Sculpting- Our unique way of having everyone able
to participate on their own snow sculpture. It will only take a few minutes to carve, and each family can display their creation on individual snow pedestals located through the Mountain Village Core.
There will be other events taking place this weekend on the plazas and ice pond and
we hope SculptFest will prove itself to be a key element in the future success of winter events held within Telluride's Mountain Village.
SculptFest will be organized by Andy Krueger of Mountain Video Productions LLC and we hope that this event will benefit every year from his support and vision.
With more than $3,000 in prizes and money, the competition is stiff. The prize money will be divided among the teams with $1,000 and 10 transferable lift tickets awarded to 1st place, and all teams taking home cash and prizes.
Sculpting begins Thursday, January 12th and teams can work round the clock on Thursday and Friday of the event to transform their 8' x 8' x 8' cubes into freestanding sculptures by the Monday January 16th judging at 10 AM with an après ski party with announcing the winners at 3:30.
